The Gambia Press Union (GPU) in partnership with the International Idea through the support from the European Union (EU) on Tuesday concluded a two day comprehensive training for Press Editors' and Journalists on conflict sensitive media coverage of the Implementation of The Government's White Paper on the TRRC Recommendations.

Jainaba Faye, Head Of Country Office, International Idea highlighted the significance of the training, whils urging journalists to treat victims with dignity, respect and compassion when reporting on conflict sensitive reporting.

“It is important to note that every story you report has a human face behind it.

This is especially true when it comes to victims of crime or human rights abuses.

Victim and conflict sensitive reporting requires treating victims with dignity,

respect, and compassion.” she urged.

Muhammad S Bah, President of the Gambia Press Union said conflict-sensitive reporting is the cornerstone of ethical journalism, particularly in covering issues such as children’s rights, sexual and gender-based violence, and other sensitive matters arising from transitional justice processes.

“Our work must center around the voices of victims and survivors, ensuring that their stories are told with dignity and respect, avoiding re-traumatization.” he said.

He added: “I urge each of you to commit wholeheartedly to this learning process. Remember, the true value of this training lies not just in the knowledge you gain but in how you apply it in your daily work. The stories you tell have the power to shape perceptions, build bridges, and influence policies. Let us harness that power responsibly.” he concluded.
