The Young Women Media and Information Literacy Initiative (YOMIL), has on Sunday completed 3 days media and information literacy training for 50 women in the media. The training was held at the National Nutrition Agency (NANA) along the Bertil Harding Highway.

The training, which was part of a larger initiative conducted across all seven regions of the country, brought together 50 participants in the KM region with a total of 280 participants across all seven regions of The Gambia. The training is aimed at enhancing media and information literacy, through equipping participants with the requisite skills to critically analyze, inform, and combat misinformation.Meita Touray, the project manager for the Young Women Media and Information Literacy Initiative (YOMIL), outlined the project’s goals and its importance.

She emphasized the project’s focus on empowering women in the media sector to think critically and participate meaningfully. “Currently, we have seen women in the media sector, but most of them hold lower positions,” she said. “The higher you go, the fewer women you find holding top positions in the media. That is the change we want to break, and we can’t break that change without empowering each other (women) with information literacy.”.
