The University of The Gambia (UTG) over the weekend marked its 17th Convocation Ceremony at the Faraba Banta Campus, celebrating 25 years of existence as a leading institution of higher learning.
The ceremony saw the graduation of 1228 undergraduate and postgraduate students, serving as a testament to the university’s commitment to producing well-rounded individuals with a strong sense of civic responsibility.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including President Adama Barrow, the Chancellor of UTG, and Professor Pierre Gomez, the Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science, and Technology.
The Vice Chancellor Professor Herbert Robinson, in his speech highlighted the university’s significant achievements across its three pillars: teaching and learning, research, and community service.
He emphasized the university’s dedication to responding to the needs of The Gambia, particularly in the areas of agriculture, health, and information technology.
The new School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the Faraba campus will provide state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities to support agricultural transformation in The Gambia.
The UTG has seen a surge in applications and enrollment, particularly since the inauguration of the Faraba Campus in 2023/2024.
This growth underscores the university’s commitment to expanding its programs and providing opportunities for students across various fields.
Professor Robinson also highlighted the introduction of new programs in agriculture, health, and technology, reflecting the university’s proactive approach to addressing national challenges.
“These programs aim to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute to The Gambia’s economic and social development.” he said.
The 17th Convocation Ceremony signifies a new chapter in the UTG’s journey, solidifying its role as a cornerstone of education and nation-building in The Gambia.
The university remains committed to producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also responsible citizens equipped to contribute to the nation’s progress.
