GALA Vows to March: Gambian Youth Demand Transparency in Jammeh Asset Sales

By Modou Touray

Amid growing concerns surrounding the controversial sale of former President Yahya Jammeh’s assets, Gambians Against Looted Assets (GALA) is set to stage a peaceful demonstration today in Banjul, demanding clarity and accountability in the process.

The protest follows a recent investigative publication that exposed alarming questions about how Jammeh’s properties were sold and who benefitted from the transactions. During a press conference held on Wednesday the youth-led group revealed that their request for a protest permit was denied by the office of the Inspector General of Police.

Despite this setback, GALA’s executive members have vowed to proceed with the demonstration, insisting that the people deserve answers.

Among the key questions raised by the group are:

Where is the list of the buyers?

Who bought what?

As pressure mounts, GALA says it will not rest until transparency prevails. “We are going to protest today, if they fail our timelines, we are going to take the streets again,” a spokesperson declared.
