Africa is still battling with the growing rise of Mpox cases. This trend, has sparked continental respond to tackle this public health emergency.
Since the declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency, DRC, Sierra Leone, Burundi and Ugandahave accounted for 96.3% of all confirmed cases.
DRC, Uganda, and Sierra Leone collectively accounted for 84% of the continent’s confirmed cases—a slight decrease from 86% reported. DRC alone accounts for 62% of all confirmed cases since the start of the current epidemic.
Professor Yap Boum, Deputy Incident Manager, Incident Management Support Team (IMST) in DRC, revealed these figures on Thursday during Africa CDC weekly virtual press briefing.
He further diagnosed the Mpox situation in DRC, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Burundi.
“New suspected cases in DRC 1,515. New confirmed cases: 194. Deaths on confirmed Cases: 0. Among total confirmed cases: Clade(s) : Ia and Ib. Males: 69%. Children 15.38” he revealed. New suspected cases in Sierra Leone 233. New confirmed cases: 199 . Deaths on confirmed Cases: 3 Among total confirmed cases: Clade(s): IIb. Males: 51%. Children <15: 3.9%.” he added.
Mpox Situation In Uganda
“New confirmed cases: 140. Deaths on confirmed Cases: 0. Among total confirmed cases: Clade(s): Ib Males: 56.1%. Children 11.4%.”.
Mpox Situation In Burundi
“New suspected cases: 68. New confirmed cases: 19. Deaths on confirmed Cases: 0. Among total confirmed cases: Clade(s): Ib Males: 52.1% Children 5: 47%” he said.
Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has called for concerted action, in the fight against public health emergencies facing the continent.
