The Coalition of Progressive Gambians (COPG) demanded the restoration of key provisions from the 2020 draft constitution.
The abandonment and the dilution of its core principles in the 2024 Draft the pressure group added, is both alarming and unacceptable.
“We strongly contend that the revised draft undermines foundational democratic safeguards and removes essential provisions that ensure transparency and good governance. Therefore, we unequivocally call for the restoration and reinforcement of the following provisions in the final adopted constitution.”.
Key among the provisions demanded for restoration ranges from leadership and integrity, declaration of assets, independence of institution among others.
