Cholera In DRC
DRC recorded 1,734 cases and 65 deaths. Professor Yap explained the main driver of the spread of Cholera cases in the region.
“Flooding, increased water contamination in South Kivu and Tanganyika, Cross-Border Spread” he said.
Angola recorded 285 cases and eight deaths since the outbreak.
Cholera In Sudan
Sudan recorded 603 cases and eight deaths. The hotspots of the outbreak are in Khartoum and White Nile.
Yap Boum, said Sudanʼs main water plant has not been functional due to the conflict.
“90% Khartoum’s water plants non-functional, overcrowded IDP camps in Darfur, no funds for water chlorination.”.
He added: “Outbreak occurring in the context of conflict which further adds a layer of complexity to the response efforts.Targeted attacks on water and power infrastructure, and limited access to clean water and healthcare services continue to exacerbate the risk of spread.”.
