Brikama market vendors have lamented their growing constraints on the unhygienic condition of the fish market.
This reporter was out and about on Monday to gauge the growing predicaments of vendors at the Brikama fish market, during the rainy season.
Fanta Hydra, a vegetable vendor explained the condition of the market.
“The condition of the market is not good at all anytime it rains we have no other option rather than going home with our goods”.
She added that the condition is not hygienic enough for them to sell as the place is normally dirty and ‘smelly’ which makes it difficult for them to sell.
Musukebba Ceesay, equally spoke of the difficulties in the market especially during the rainey season.
“I wake up as early as 3am to go and buy my goods and end up going home with it sometimes. As a single mother this is my only source of income to support my family but the condition of our market in the rainey season is not good we sometimes had to go home with our goods when is raining heavily because the entire place is normally flooded and dirty,” she said.
Fatou sanyang also a vendor at the Brikama market said the market is normally flooded during the rainy season.
“And we find it difficult whenever it rains as we are surrounded by stagnant water and dirt all around us.” she said.
The Chairman of the Brikama market committee Foday Manjang, said the Area Council has put up measures to tackle the growing challenges of vendors during the rainy season. “Chairman Yankuba Darboe has been helping by bring two skeptic tank to drain the water,”.
