Africa CDC reports decline of Mpox cases

 The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) have revealed sharp decline of Mpox cases across the continent.



Prof Yap Boum, Deputy Incident Manager, Incident Management Support Team (IMST) in DRC revealed this on Thursday during Africa CDC weekly virtual press briefing.




He said the situation of Mpox cases have decline to 52 per cent reduction. “Average weekly confirmed cases declined from 1,432 to 680” he revealed. 




Mpox situation in Sierra Leone




According to Professor Yap, Sierra Leone has seen a sharp decline of Mpox cases from 120 to 43 new confirmed cases in recent weeks.“Operation zero case by end of August have started this week. 148,894 people have vaccinated, of which 43 per cent are contacts.” he said. 



Mpox situation in Uganda 



Uganda have also seen a decline of Mpox cases from 83 to 71 cases.




“Average weekly confirmed cases decreased by 62 per cent. Kampala 34 per cent, Wakiso 12 per cent, and Mbarara 8 per cent account for a total of 54 per cent of the 7,864 confirmed Mpox cases.”.




Liberia, Burundi, Ghana and Guinea have all reported a sharp decline of Mpox cases.




Africa CDC have delivered 3,103, 600 doses of vaccine to 12 countries in its drive to advance efforts to strengthen public health emergencies facing the continent.
