Awa Bling, renowned human rights activist and hip-hop singer has said that diabetes can be managed, amid growing fears of the disease.

She posted on LinkedIn over the weekend in commemoration of World Diabetes Day.

“To anyone who is newly diagnosed: please do not be scared. Diabetes can be managed. It starts with taking your diet seriously, staying active, and giving yourself time to adjust.” she said.

The renowned hip-hop star further recounted when she was diagnosed with diabetes.

“When I was newly diagnosed, I was lost and scared. I didn’t know what to eat, so I often starved myself. I kept asking, ‘why do I have diabetes in my early 30s?’ she quizzed.

She added: “There were days I stayed in my room with the curtains closed, not talking to anyone. Those were truly difficult days.

But today, over a year later I stand stronger. I’ve learned so much. I’ve learned how to monitor my sugar levels. I’ve learned how the foods and drinks I choose can affect my readings, and I’ve made it a habit to record and understand those changes.”.
