The Gambia Police Force has successfully secured conviction of Abdoulie Bojang after he was found guilty of trafficking in obscene publication (Cybercrime).
The UK-based Gambian national was on holiday in the country during his conviction. His conviction follows an investigation led by the GPF Cybercrime Unit and subsequent prosecution.
The case was heard before Principal Magistrate I. Jallow of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court. Bojang was charged under “Traffic in Obscene Publication contrary to Section 142 sub (1)a of the Criminal Offences Act 2025”.
According to the police report, during his first appearance on last Thursday, the accused pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him, and the matter was adjourned for sentencing.
Delivering the judgment on December 10, 2025, Principal Magistrate Jallow sentenced Bojang to a mandatory six-month custodial term. He was also ordered to pay D1,000,000 in compensation, failing which he will serve an additional two years’ imprisonment.
The Gambia Police Force encourages the public to report any form of cyber-related offences or unlawful publication to the nearest police station or through official reporting channels.
“Together, we can promote responsible online behaviour and safeguard our digital and social environment”, the police added.
