The Inspector General of Police, Seedy Mukhtar Touray, has warned that The Gambia’s reputation for peace and stability should not lead to complacency in the fight against crime.
Speaking yesterday at the decoration ceremony of 156 police officers, held at the police headquarters in Banjul.
He stressed the continued importance of public safety.
The police chief said that while crime levels and road safety have improved through intelligence-led policing, robust patrols, community engagement and the Highway Patrol Unit, security threats remain.
He noted that Gambians continue to rely on the police to prevent crime and maintain public order.
“We cannot afford to rest on our laurels. The people are counting on us to protect them from the menace of insecurity,” Mr Touray said.
He added that cooperation between the police and the civilian population remains essential to sustaining peace, expressing confidence that collective effort will prevail against those seeking to create fear and panic in the country.
