Essa Mbye Faal, former TRRC lead counsel and leader of APP-Sobeyaa has slammed government lavish spending on “unnecessary things”, in the aftermath of tragic loss of migrants in the country.
Speaking at the Popular Coffee Time Show with Peter Gomez on Monday, he described the irregular migration trend as a result of “the terrible economic situation at home.”.
He said the President should focus on the root causes to address the irregular migration phenomena. “People are leaving their job and going to backway. He should ask himself why are these people living” he quizzed.
He said the months of November and December were grief period for the country. He added that government officials went around town flaunting money at a time of grief.
“The month of November and December are terrible days for Gambian youths. Hundreds of Gambian youths died. Government officials went around town partying, and given out money.
It is insensitive for government officials to be behaving in that manner.” he argued.
He added: “People have no choice Mr. President. If they had the choice they would have stay here
They have to leave because of the ‘Barrownics’ that people are suffering here is killing Gambians. They would rather go out and die bravely than sit here and die of starvation. Because there is nothing in here for them.”.
