Myanmar committed genocidal intent -Gambia tells ICJ

(Outpost) Dawda Jallow, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of The Gambia has said that Myanmar has committed genocidal intent against the
Rohingya Muslims.



Speaking on Tuesdays in the ongoing genocide trial at the International Court of Justice against the Myanmar government, said the military junta committed gross atrocities and violations against the Rohingya Muslims.



“Gambia has carefully examined jurisprudence and has fit it weakest one of the indicators of Myanmarʼs genocidal intent.


Myanmar appears to be trapped in the cycle of atrocities and impunities. No one has been held responsible for the crimes against the Rohingya.” he argued.



He said The Gambia has examined meticulous reports of the United Nation fact finding mission and credible reports that the government committed vicious violations against the Rohingya.



“We brought this case after reviewing credible reports of the most brutal and vicious violations imaginable inflicted upon a vulnerable group that had been dehumanized and persecuted for many years.


We received and carefully examined the meticulous reports of the United Nation fact finding mission, despite by the UN human rights council.” he said.



He said human rights watch have sounded alarm of human rights violations and abuses by the military government against the Rohingya muslims.



“We also examined reports issued by the reputable international human rights organizations which sounded the alarm on the genocide of the Rohingya unfolding in northern Rakhine State.”.




Thousands of Rohingha Muslims have been persecuted and fled to Bangladesh, amid the genocide.



The credible reports from diverse independent sources he said, left no doubt that Myanmar had to be held accountable for its violations of the Genocide convention.
