The National Assembly of The Gambia Special Select Committee has recommended that the current Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dawda A. Jallow, be formally reprimanded over issues related to the handling of assets belonging to former president Yahya Jammeh.

The recommendation is contained in the committee’s report on the sale and disposal of Jammeh’s assets, which was recently tabled before the National Assembly.

According to the committee, the minister should be reprimanded for allegedly perpetuating and validating unlawful administrative arrangements that were initially established by his predecessor.

The report forms part of a broader review by lawmakers into how assets linked to the former president were managed and disposed of after the change of government.

The committee’s findings and recommendations are expected to generate debate among lawmakers and the public as the Assembly considers the next steps regarding the matter.
