Police Investigate Assault Causing Serious Injury in Gunjur

Authorities in Gunjur are currently investigating a reported case of assault causing serious injury, which occurred on March 22, 2026.



The incident, stemming from a land dispute with individuals from Berending, has sparked concern among local residents.



According to initial reports, the victim, identified as Yahya Touray from Gunjur, was viciously attacked by a group of individuals wielding cutlasses while working on farmland. As a result, Touray suffered severe bodily harm and was taken to Gunjur Health Centre for treatment. He was later transferred to Brikama Major Health Centre for further care.



In a swift response, the Gunjur Police have taken two suspects, Babucarr Jammeh (50) and Fatou Saidy (31), both from Berending, into custody for questioning. However, one suspect, Ousman Jatta, is still at large and being sought by authorities.



Despite the tensions, the situation in the area is currently under control, with a strong police presence. Community leaders and youth groups have also stepped in to engage in productive dialogue, emphasizing the need for restraint and peaceful coexistence.
