The Coalition for System Change (CSC) organized a day long dialogue among aspiring political leaders, civil society leaders, community leaders and other stakeholders for a National consultative meeting to form a coalition for the 2026/28 elections.
This event which was held on Wednesday was initiated by Dr Kebba Foon and Ismaila Touray CSC a civil society that was established in 2023 and had their first meeting in 2024 with the aim of bringing various stakeholders to create a coalition for the 2026/28 elections and also bring system change in the Gambia.
Among the people who were present on the occasion were The party leader for APP Sobeya party, Mr Essa Faal who highlights the importance of working together to achieve one goal “ Right now, what people are saying is that there must be a coalition in order to defeat Barrow — that without a coalition, Barrow won’t lose.
But for me, I don’t think that is true. Barrow can lose even without a coalition” Essa Faal stated “In fact, Barrow prefers that there is no coalition so he can make people believe he will win easily. When people believe that they’ll stay home thinking he cannot lose. That is the kind of propaganda he wants” said Mr Faal.
Dr Gajigo an aspiring political leader also said he wishes to join hands with the coalition for system change (CSC) because the 2016 coalition purpose wasn’t met.
The party leader for the Tabax Rewmi Ahmad kah, said for the coalition to succeed members must be treated equally, members must trust one another and most importantly the organizers should ensure fair treatment between all political parties.
Among the political parties that where invited only six where present including, Lamin J Darboe party leader for NUP, Imam Musa Jallow leader for GRDP, Robert Benjamin leader for PTA, GDC represented by their admin secretary, Mr Baldeh, Ahmad Kah leader for Tabax Rewmi, Essa Faal leader for APP Sobeya together with other movements and individuals. However; other parties like the UDP and UMC did not show up during the dialogue and they where confirmed of been sent invitations for the collaborations.
