Halifa Sallah, the Secretary General of the People’s Democratic Organization for Independence and Socialism (PDOIS) outlined vision for system change ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.
He made these remarks at the party congress over the weekend at Paradise hotel. The congress themed: “Building a team of thinkers, innovators and builder’s of a nation” saw the presence of party delegates, supporters, the party executives, the party central committee and people from different walks of life.
The veteran politician said the party will continue its mandate to liberate the country from the fetters of poverty and ignorance.
He said DOI is leading efforts to usher in ‘system change’ through poverty eradication.
He further added that the party is nurturing political thinkers to be able to shape the destiny of the country
“We need thinkers. A thinker who can assess, monitor, gauge and evaluate. A thinker who can separate the chaff from the grain, and take what is clear. A thinker who knows what serves national interest.” he said.
Functions of bureaus
He said the bureaus serve as political veranda to liberate the minds of citizens; through political knowledge and education to discharge their sovereign rights in nation building.
“All the bureaus were assigned responsibilities. They have day to day functions, to articulate and move the party forward. Some receive information and disseminate it.
Some seek knowledge and help guide the party, to build the knowledge base of the party. Some deal with the issues of women and youths. All facets of society are covered. They address national matters. The party is an instrument to prepare the individual in nation building.”.
The congress has been rescheduled to 24th January 2026.
