The Office of the Executive Coordinator, in collaboration with the Banjul City Council, on Saturday the 6th of September, successfully organized a day-long cleansing exercise within the commercial area of Banjul.
The activity targeted major market spaces, road and ferry terminal areas with the aim of promoting hygiene, improving drainage systems, and fostering community responsibility.
The initiative brought together diverse stakeholders including the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), the Gambia Police Force (GPF), NDMA, NEA, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the Banjul Scouts/ Baden Powell group, the Banjul Red Cross, women groups and other community-based organizations, political party representatives and market vendors.
The strong turnout and dedication contributed to the overall success of the exercise.
Speaking at the climax of the event, the Executive Coordinator of Banjul, Hon. Ebrima Jawo expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their commitment and hard work.
He emphasized the importance of community hygiene, noting that “cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility,” and urged all Banjulians and Gambians at large to actively take part in initiatives that enhance health, sanitation, and disaster prevention in their communities.
He further commended the Gambia Armed Forces for their dedication and efforts throughout the exercise.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Hon. Abdou Jobe also delivered concluding remarks, praising the massive turnout and commitment displayed by the citizens. He encouraged Banjulians to prioritize community development initiatives such as cleaning exercises and setting aside politics when addressing matters that serve the greater good of the city.
The cleansing exercise stands as a demonstration of unity, shared responsibility, and commitment towards a cleaner, healthier, and safer Banjul.
