Police in Brufut have arrested a Gambian businessman following reports of gunshots and threatening behaviour at his residence, sparking concerns among local residents.
Lamin Sawo, 38, who resides in Salagi, was taken into custody on Tuesday by officers from the Police Anti-Crime Unit.
He was found in possession of a 9mm Walther pistol (serial number BC23169595) along with nine rounds of ammunition—five of which had been discharged.
The arrest came yesterday after an informant alerted authorities to gunfire and alleged threats at Sawo’s home. Upon arrival, officers discovered several spent cartridges and recovered the firearm from inside the suspect’s room.
Sawo admitted to owning the weapon but denied firing it. He told investigators that he had discovered the pistol hidden and decided to keep it for personal protection.
Police have confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue. Authorities have not yet disclosed whether Sawo holds a valid licence for the firearm or if further charges will be brought.
