Baba Demba Jallow, a fisherman in his twenties has on Monday drowned under mysterious circumstances during a fishing trip with his colleagues.
According to information gathered by officers at the Brusibi Police Station, the unfortunate event occurred when Baba Demba Jallow attempted to jump from one boat to another while wearing heavy boots.
At the time, the boat was in motion and shook, causing him to lose his balance and fall into the deep river. As he was not a strong swimmer, he quickly disappeared beneath the water.
Despite immediate rescue efforts by his colleagues and the boat captain, including the use of nets and maneuvering the vessel to his last known location, Baba Demba Jallow could not be saved.
The boat captain, who described Baba Demba Jallow as a close friend, informed the police that he often trusted him with the boat, even allowing him to act as second captain during his absence. The bond between them was one of deep trust and mutual respect.
Following the incident, both the captain and the other crew members reported themselves to the Brusibi Police Station, where the case is currently under investigation.
In the wake of the tragedy, the bereaved family is appealing to the general public to report any sightings of the body. They are also calling for justice and transparency regarding the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
