Police nabs man who allegedly abscond with million Dalasi

According to the Gambia Police , Ebrima Buckle Kargbo, a suspect, who absconded with a million Dalasi was intercepted and arrested at the Kerr Ali border by security services.



During his arrest on January 31, 2026, the Police said he was found in possession of Forty-Two Thousand Dalasis (D42,000).



“He was subsequently escorted to SeneGambia Police Station for further investigation.”.


The Criminal Investigation Department of SeneGambia Police Station is investigating an alleged theft involving a cash sum of about One Million Dalasis (D1,000,000).


According to Police Preliminary investigation report, Kargbo, a resident of Manjai and a driver by professionn is the suspect who fled with above-mentioned amount.


The report stated that he
was accompanying the complainant on official duties to collect payments from various establishments.


“During the exercise, a total sum of approximately One Million Dalasis was reportedly collected and kept in the custody of the complainant.” the police said.



The Police reported that Kargbo and the complainant return journey, the complainant reportedly requested the driver to stop briefly and alighted from the vehicle, leaving the collected cash inside.


“The suspect allegedly drove off with the vehicle, absconding with the money.” the police added.


According to the Police, Kargbo “admitted committing the offence” which is fleeing with the money.


Is the money recovered?


“The Investigators recovered USD 3,500 and D262,150.00 from persons entrusted to keep the money.”.


The Police added that all persons linked to the matter are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations as efforts continue to recover the remaining funds and conclude enquiries.
