The Vision Development Foundation (VDF), under the leadership of Modou Turo Darboe, has donated food items to needy families as part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities across The Gambia.
Hundreds of men and women gathered at Darboe’s compound in Churchill’s Town recently to receive the food packages, which were distributed to assist families during the blessed night of Lailatul Qadr.
Each beneficiary received essential food items including one litre of cooking oil, sugar, chicken, bread, spaghetti, and other supplies.
Speaking to the press during the distribution, the Public Relations Officer and Director of Operations of the Vision Development Foundation, Mr. Tijan Fofana, explained that the main objective of the foundation is to bring smiles to the faces of needy people across the length and breadth of the country.
Mr. Fofana emphasized that the foundation’s activities are purely humanitarian and not politically motivated. According to him, Modou Turo Darboe was inspired by his father’s teachings on generosity.
“Modou was inspired by his father to give as much as he can, that is why he continues to support people,” Fofana said.
He further noted that in previous years, the foundation purchased rams and cattle from the abattoir and distributed them to communities across the country, including as far as Basse.
However, he explained that the current distribution in Churchill’s Town mainly targets beneficiaries in the Kombos, while food items for distant communities are transported directly to them.
One of the beneficiaries, Fatoumatta, expressed delight and extended gratitude to the foundation for the support during the holy month of Ramadan, saying the gesture would go a long way in helping her family.
Another beneficiary praised the foundation for its continuous development support to communities and encouraged others to emulate Modou Turo Darboe’s spirit of giving.
Several other beneficiaries also expressed happiness and appreciation as they collected their food packages.
With nearly three decades of existence, the Vision Development Foundation has positively impacted the lives of many Gambians through initiatives supporting women gardeners, farmers, education, and other community development programs.
