The Gambia Immigration Department has intercepted thirty-two (32) suspected would-be migrants during an intelligence-led operation conducted on April 19, 2026.
The operation, carried out by the Barra Migration Management Unit in collaboration with the North Bank Border Patrol Unit, took place at Mendy’s Lodge, where the individuals were reportedly gathering in preparation for an irregular journey to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
All suspects have been taken into custody and are currently undergoing profiling, screening, and further investigations to identify any facilitators behind the attempted migration.
The group comprises:
22 Senegalese
6 Gambians
2 Malians
2 Guineans
