NEA to enforce stance against indiscriminate littering

The National Environment Agency (NEA) of The Gambia has announced stricter enforcement of anti-littering regulations in response to the widespread littering of public spaces:

Fines

Offenders can face fines ranging from D1,000 to D30,000 for littering offences.
Enforcement campaigns
The NEA will conduct regular sensitization and enforcement campaigns across the country.

Litter Hotline

The NEA urges residents to report littering violations by providing a litter hotline.
The NEA has been concerned about littering since the anti-littering regulations were put in place in 2007. The NEA says that littering is anti-social and detrimental to the environment and public health.
Some other actions the NEA is taking to reduce plastic pollution include: Banning single-use plastic carrier bags, Reducing reliance on plastic bags for water, Banning single-use plastic bottles, Introducing a deposit return scheme for plastic bottles, and Improving solid waste management.
